Link in bio for salons: what to put in your Instagram bio
You post a nice photo of a balayage, someone wants the same, and then what? Instagram does not let you put a clickable link in a regular post. So the caption says “link in bio” and the client goes to your profile. What they find there decides whether you get a booking or a DM you still have to answer at half past ten at night.
What is link in bio?
“Link in bio” points to the link in your Instagram profile. It is the fixed spot for a clickable link. Instagram now lets you add several links to your bio, but visitors only see one straight away. The rest sit behind an extra tap.
So for a salon or beauty pro the question is not whether to use a link in bio, but which link.
Link page or direct booking link?
There are two ways to do it.
A link page (Linktree and similar services) is an in-between page with a row of buttons: book, price list, gift card, WhatsApp, TikTok. Handy if you really have a lot. But every button is a choice, and every choice is a moment where someone drops off.
A direct booking link takes the client in one tap to your calendar with treatments, prices and free times. No detour.
What we see with beauty pros: if bookings are the goal, the direct link wins. Your profile already has a bio, highlights and posts. Everything else is there already.
What belongs in your bio (and what does not)
A bio that brings bookings has four parts:
- What you do and where: “Mobile hairdresser, Utrecht area”. A place name also helps people searching on Instagram.
- One reason to book: “Curly cuts, dry and wet”. Concrete, not a slogan.
- A call to action: “Book your appointment below”.
- The link, to your booking page.
Leave out “DM for prices”. It sounds personal, but it means a conversation for every question, and the client who wants to book at 23:00 hears back the next day. Put your prices on the booking page. Tips for a clear list are in Hairdresser price list: template and example.
Put the booking link in more places
The bio is not the only way in. Use the same link here too:
- Behind the “Book” or “Reserve” button on your business profile.
- In a pinned story highlight called “Book”.
- In your reply to DMs that ask about a booking: “Great! You can pick a time here: [link]”.

See whether your link in bio works
Add a UTM tag to your link, for example:
pbw.life/your-name/?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=bio
A UTM tag is a bit of text after a link that says where the visitor came from. An analytics tool such as Google Analytics reads it. Use utm_medium=highlight for your highlight and you will also see which entry works best. No analytics tool? Check how often your link was tapped in the insights of your Instagram business account, and compare that with your new bookings per week.
What the booking page has to do
A link in bio is only as good as the page behind it. Three things matter:
- Price and duration per treatment are visible without logging in.
- The client picks a free time, without waiting for your reply.
- A deposit confirms the slot, so a tap from a follower turns into a real client. What a deposit is and how much to ask is in What is a deposit?
pbw.life gives you that page on your own address, in seven languages, with the deposit by iDEAL built in. That is the link for your bio, and the rest of your Instagram can just look good.
Frequently asked questions
What does link in bio mean?
Links in regular Instagram posts are not clickable. The one fixed place for a clickable link is your profile, the bio. "Link in bio" sends followers there.
Is a link page like Linktree better than one link?
Only if you really have several things people need to find. For most salons the booking page is what counts, and every extra tap costs you bookings.
How do I know whether people book through my bio?
Add a UTM tag to the link, for example ?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=bio. An analytics tool such as Google Analytics reads it and shows the visitor came from your bio. A business account on Instagram also shows how often your link was tapped.
